2013. The year when Interfaces shunned the burden of being life like and became simplified. The Flat Design, with iOS7, was finally here. It was global, adapted, loved, hated, found to be easy, found to be confusing and our screens were changed forever in how they look and how we interact with our devices.

Flat Design has taken the world by storm. It has been hailed as beautiful, interactive, engaging and bold. A lot of designers have taken up the seat on the Flat Design wagon and consider it an interesting adventure. The idea to use Occam’s razor on the design elements, to shun everything that is unnecessary and reach into the essence of what a design element conveys is now considered alluring.
Congruently, there is a methodology of tech startup development that we have also adopted is the “Lean UX Startup” methodologies, specifically the Agile work approach in startup web development solutions and the rapid prototyping of MVPs to keep track and measure progress. Several tech startups have wholeheartedly agreed with the idea of Flat Design for their user interface development. But for many, while Flat Design in itself is an easy attraction, the nuance and complexity that goes behind the process is still unknown or misunderstood.
We have come across designers who put down Flat as merely a removal of layers, gradients and shadows and Bam! You got yourself a flat design, according to such maestros. There is a lot more that goes into Flat Design than simply removal and elimination. How do you take an entire idea or an intention and boil it down to the most basic visual element? We are not simply speaking about how to create the most easy to use interface or how to bring forth the most pretty looking screens.
We have worked in flat design. We love it. We don’t think it will be a mere trend and we don’t think it is simple matter of removal of layers or shadows. Our several concepts adapt Flat Design in a speculation of how the future of our screens and the future of UI/UX Design and development look like. You can see some of our work with Flat Design here and here and here and critique us.
Ah yes, our favorite question of all. What comes next? Well, now comes the best part. There is a new way of design. A new visual language. And now we get to write stories in it. Beautiful, simple, human stories, designs that make you react not with shock but with delight. Designs that merge with the user experience seamlessly. Designs that bring your motive and your action front and center and stays behind as the dynamic pedestal on which you interact with your favorite devices.
Web Startup Development is changing. It is becoming cleaner. It is becoming more human. No more are there the urges to conquer it all. The entrepreneurs are streamlining their ambitions. Pick one, be the best at it is the new order of the tech startups. And as a result, this is reflected in both, the design and the development. So on one hand you have the front end, handled and adorned with flat design. On the other, you have the back end, solidly stable on Lean UX methodology that acquires the tone of a conducting virtuoso who with his back to world, is bringing forth the greatest of performance.
